The 5th International City-Water-Quality of Life Congress will be held on October 24-25 at the Congress Center of the Wrocław University of Technology. This event is designed to draw attention to the relationship between the water, urban and social environments, in the context of the quality of life of residents. Cities along the waterfront treat it as an important component of their development – not only a raw material, but also an element of the landscape, culture and economy. Hence the triad: WATER-CITY-QUALITY-OF-LIFE.
City-Water-Quality of Life Congress – sustainable urban water management
The trendy buzzword of recent years is green cities. This, coupled with the fact that Poland is a country that faces the problem of insufficient water resources, creates fertile ground for green-blue infrastructure topics. The congress is an ideal opportunity to discuss experts from various fields. Greenery is an easily noticeable element that contributes to the city’s attractiveness. Finding or creating a balanced position for water requires more imagination, but has a more comprehensive impact on the development of an urbanized area.
The congress will focus on the relationship taking place between the water and urban environments. The ambitious goal is to identify paths that offset the negative effects of the two environments’ interactions. It will therefore be necessary to analyze various aspects of water management. It must take into account the supply, production and distribution systems, take into account threats to water sources, threats of destructive elemental power, river transport capabilities or drought risks.
During the Congress, the input-output relationship will be considered in detail. There will also be an inventory of factors affecting how the city manages and could manage the water environment. It will link data on the quality of life in the city with information on the volume of water consumption, the amount of wastewater, and the risk of pollution of groundwater, lakes, rivers and streams. The topic of river transportation and its limitations and environmental impact will be recalled, as well as phenomena related to supply and distribution logistics.
The City-Water-Quality of Life Congress is primarily intended to identify optimal paths for urban development, taking into account the needs for an effective water policy. During the event, nearly 90 national and international speakers will discuss topics related to urban water policy in practice, rainwater retention and use, urban adaptation to climate change, water-friendly architecture and social responsibility for water. And all this within the framework of three thematic axes.

Development of the conclusions of the deliberations of the Third Water Roundtable “Water Management in Emergencies,” which addressed the impact of climate change on hydrological and meteorological risks.
