The European Commission is inviting applications for funds for activities related to nutrient work. Horizon Europe is EU funding for research and innovation.
According to the 2022 adopted in December. work program for 2023 – 2024, the EC will invest some €13.5 billion in research and innovation to seek breakthrough environmental, energy, digital and geopolitical solutions. Detailed information on calls, including for nutrient-related activities, can be found in a special database available on the EC website.
Admittedly, the possibility of requesting funding for nutrient-related research has been put on hold for the moment, but the topic will return in the fall. On April 12, 2023. five current calls are to be resolved. They are indirectly related to nutrients and involve:
- Strategies for improving yields in organic farming systems;
- activities for the European partnership Water Security for the Planet(Water4All);
- Sustainable renewable energy production at the farm level;
- Eliminating micronutrient deficiencies in EU countries;
- The impact of urban agriculture on food security.
The next call for proposals, directly related to nutrients, will begin on October 17, 2023. and will concern:
- compliance with ecologically and regionally safe limits for nitrogen and phosphorus;
- Fertilizer products recovered from recycled materials;
- irrigation practices and technologies in agriculture, including the potential of sewage sludge and other sources of biowaste to ensure high agronomic efficiency of the nutrients they contain;
- Increase the availability and use of inputs in organic farming;
- nutritional values of animal feed under different production conditions;
- new closed-loop solutions and approaches to water and wastewater management;
- Water quality monitoring in urban areas;
- Technologies to prevent and control pollution from bio-industry.
