Gizycko awarded in an important competition category
Gizycko’s tap was recognized in the HEALTH category, as an initiative that speaks for drinking water straight from the tap and promotes the health benefits of doing so. This is an important award that confirms the excellent quality and value of Gizycko’s water and this city’s commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle. This is a project that was developed in cooperation with the Gizycko Water and Sewage Company and the extremely talented Aleksandra Juszkiewicz, a biologist and environmentalist.
The award in the Local Government Communication and Promotion Leader competition was received by Mayor Wojciech Karol Iwaszkiewicz, during a gala ceremony at the Gdynia City Museum. This remarkable award confirms that Giżycko is moving with the times, investing in innovative projects that benefit the community and the environment.
Brief characteristics of Gizycko’s tap water
Water flowing from Gizycko taps is distinguished not only by its delicious taste, but also by its rich mineral composition. It has a high level of mineralization, exceeding 700 mg/l, higher than many popular bottled waters available on the market. Water from the Gizycko tap does not require chlorination or ozonation, which has a positive effect on its taste and quality. In addition, it contains valuable minerals such as calcium and magnesium, which have a positive effect on health, especially the cardiovascular system.
The water supplied to Gizycko taps comes from the groundwater resources of the Borecka Forest and is drawn from a depth of 44 to 212 meters. There are 15 drilled wells in the vicinity of the water treatment plant, which feed raw water to the treatment point via underwater units. Intake, treatment and distribution for the needs of the population of Gizycko is handled by the Water Supply and Sewerage Company Ltd.
Advantages of Gizycko tap water
The“Clean | Gizycko Water” project reflects the city’s commitment to protecting the environment and promoting a healthy lifestyle. By drinking water straight from the tap, we can reduce our use of plastic bottles and reduce our negative impact on the planet. Gizycko is a real model for other cities, showing that drinking tap water can be tasty, healthy and environmentally friendly.
Water straight from the tap has minerals, including bio-elements such as calcium and magnesium. Boiling or filtering causes some minerals – especially calcium and magnesium compounds – to precipitate as sediment (scale), which softens the water, but also depletes its mineral composition. For this reason, boiling water is not recommended for direct consumption.
The Polish Magnesium Society presents evidence that hard water, which contains higher amounts of such bio-elements as magnesium and calcium, may be healthier than soft water. A lower incidence of cardiovascular disease has been observed in its areas.
Gizycko – entrepreneurial initiative in support of the environment
Many restaurant and institution owners have joined the “Clean Gizycko” initiative, offering their customers free tap water. This practice, widely known in restaurants in the West, is becoming increasingly popular in Poland as well. Restaurateurs, aware of the environmental impact of the production of plastic bottles and the value of the water needed to make them, have decided to take steps to reduce this negative activity. Instead of offering bottled water, they serve customers pure Gizyna tap water for free.
Among the partners who have joined this noble initiative are such places as the Cloud Brewery, the Siwa Czapla Tavern, the Masovia Hotel Restaurant, the Wodnik Restaurant and Hotel, the St. Thomas Hotel. Bruno and La Bibliotheque Restaurant, Porto Suites, Tajty Hotel, Swan Ost Resort Restaurant, Giżycko Tourist Promotion and Information Center, Żukowscy Building Materials Giżycko, Hotel Mazury, Korsar Euro Cup 2021, State Music School of the 1st degree in Giżycko, Center for Addiction Prevention and Social Integration, CUiIS socio-therapeutic day care center, CPUiIS Senior Citizens Club, Giżycko Social Integration Center, Hotel Cesarski, Hotel Giżycko, AZS COSA Wilkasy Restaurant, White Bear Coffee and Promyk Association.
