On May 1, 2023. In Giżycko, the capital of Polish sailing, another sailing and tourist season began in a unique way. There was no shortage of great presentations on the water, demonstrations, artistic performances and, above all, great fun.
This year’s Grand Opening of the Season in Gizycko was special, as it took place in a brand new location – at the Ekomarina Port and Harbor Passage. Crowds of locals and tourists from all over Poland flocked to the port, which was certainly a sign of the great interest in the event. The weather, for May Day, was unusually kind, and the organizers did their best to ensure that there was something for everyone.
The capital of Polish sailing a May entertainment center
The ceremony began with an official welcome speech by Mayor Wojciech Karol Iwaszkiewicz and the swearing in of MOPR lifeguards, who are a key support group on the water. One of the most exciting highlights of the show was the flyboard demonstrations, which impressed the audience. The masterful skills of the competitors, as well as the picturesque backdrop of Lake Niegocin, made it a real visual spectacle. Then it was time for the beautifully decorated vessels, which took part in the parade and competed for valuable prizes. Among them, the Floating Fortress stood out, winning first place. The second place was taken by the unit Czary mary, whether Mazury or Canary, and in third place was the Crisis Crew. Honorable mentions went to Unicorns and Far from the Stretcher.
There was also a sky-high surprise that day – the flight of a Cessna and two ultralight aircraft over the gathered crowd, which was undoubtedly one of the most exciting moments at the event.
In addition to the shows and parade, participants also had the opportunity to enjoy a number of tourist attractions that provided entertainment for the entire family. Radio Zet Town surprised guests with a huge array of attractions and delicious culinary surprises. The event’s ambassador, Ola Juszkiewicz, along with Dariusz Baryga, served guests with a delicious soup of Masurian fish. The 15th Gizycko Mechanized Brigade also had its booth at Ekomarina.
The Very Cultural Picnic continued at the Port Passage as part of Gizycko Days, with artists such as the Grodzisk Entertainment Orchestra, Locomotora Group, Atlantis, local dancers and singers active at GCK, HLA 4transplant, The Sunset, and the Big Bike Orchestra taking the stage. Along the entire Harbor Passage there were booths with various items, and the youngest could have fun on inflatables and a climbing wall.
There was also plenty of charity, as the event featured a financial collection for little Wojtus Koziol, whom the capital of Polish sailing is supporting this year in his fight for health.
All this made the Grand Opening of the Season in Gizycko an unforgettable event that participants will remember for a long time to come. Read more about the event on the organizer‘s website.
