National Forest Programme. Your voice on the future of forests!

National Forest Programme

Everyone who cares about protecting forests and managing them responsibly in Poland can take part in the development of the National Forest Programme (NFP). The Ministry of Climate and Environment (MCE) invites people to share their opinions on the most important challenges and problems, as well as proposals for actions for the coming years. Each of us can speak up.

National Forest Programme – key assumptions

The National Forest Programme (NFP) will be a strategic document that will set the direction for the development of Polish forests and forestry for the next 25 years. It will indicate which actions are worth taking in the short, medium and long term, up to 2050. The programme is to be adopted by the Council of Ministers in 2027.

The document is intended to take into account the effects of climate and economic changes observed in recent decades. The social role of forests has also changed – expectations of Poles regarding nature protection, landscape quality and transparency of rules for using forest areas are increasing. Therefore, the current state forest policy requires updating, organising and coordinating. According to the MCE, the National Forest Programme is to serve State Forests, but also private forest owners applying for state support, the scientific community and non-governmental organisations, as well as the wood industry.

Why is it worth taking part in creating the NFP?

The process of preparing the NFP has been planned as participatory. The MCE invites representatives of various sectors to participate: entrepreneurs, scientists, non-governmental organisations, local governments and individuals. As part of the consultations, ideas and expectations of all these groups will be collected. The Ministry hopes that thanks to broad debate, it will be easier for the National Forest Programme to reconcile the interests of many sides and develop beneficial solutions. The collected responses will be analysed and organised by the MCE, and then used when formulating the diagnosis, objectives and proposed actions in the National Forest Programme.

How to take part in the consultations?

Proposals, needs and observations can be submitted using a form prepared by the MCE. As the Ministry emphasises, no specialist knowledge is required to answer the questions.

The form Your voice on the future of forests makes it possible to report specific problems and ideas for solving them. They may concern, among other things, forest cultivation, nature protection, climate change adaptation, wood use or public participation. It is possible to submit several proposals from different thematic areas. In each case, the time frame for implementing the action must be indicated: short-term (by 2030), medium-term (by 2035) and long-term (by 2050).

The MCE also encourages people to apply to the Supporting Team for preparing the draft National Forest Programme – an open consultation forum accompanying the work on the document. Applications are accepted via an electronic form until 31 December 2025.
