Weather and hydrological situation in Poland – forecast for the next few days

The coming days will bring a calming of the weather. We will take a break from the strong winds and the stuttering rain. The wandering of lows with frontal systems will already be replaced by highs and temperatures around 0°C over the weekend. Only the end of next week will be the return to a dynamic and rainy winter. Precipitation and snowmelt from the previous few days may cause further increases in river levels.

Meteorological forecast

Friday cloudy, with moderate cloudiness in the east to total cloudiness in the west of the country. An atmospheric front moving from the west will bring moderate rainfall across Poland in the afternoon and evening. In the east and in the mountains, snow and rain with snow are not excluded. Frosty at night, with temperatures ranging from -2°C in the east and foothills to 3°C in the west of the country. Daytime temperatures range from -1°C in the eastern extremities and mountains to 4°C in the rest of the area. In the afternoon, temperatures will rise to 8°C in the west of the country. In the east, the wind is weak, northwesterly, and after the front passes, south and southwesterly, strong and gusty.

The passage of a frontal zone through Poland will bring total and heavy cloud cover on Saturday. Only in the west possible overcast. Night temperatures from -3°C in the eastern extremities and mountains to 3°C in western Poland and the coast. During the day, only in the south negative temperatures, in the rest of the area from 2°C in the east to 6°C in the west. During the night and morning, weak to moderate rain and rain with snow will occur in the east and in a belt from Pomerania to Małopolska. During the day and in the evening, the precipitation zone will shift to the southeast. Local freezing precipitation possible in the Carpathians. Northwest wind, strong to moderate.

Sunday in western Poland will bring melt and sunny weather. In the center and east it continues to be cloudy with overcast. Temperatures at night from -2°C in the south and east to 2°C in the rest of the area. Daytime temperatures will rise to 2°C in the east and mountains to 5°C on the coast and west of the country. Weak snow and rain with snow possible only on the eastern edges and in the Carpathians. The wind will be weak and from variable directions. Only in the west is it mostly southerly and moderate.

Monday will generally be cheerful and without precipitation. Only in the southeastern extremities high to moderate cloudiness is possible. At night, frosty in the Carpathian Mountains – up to -7°C. In the rest of the area from 0°C to 3°C. Daytime positive temperatures throughout the country, with a maximum of up to 7°C in the southwest. The wind will be southerly, weak to moderate. Only on the coast and in the Baltic Sea gusty.

Thanks to the highland system, Tuesday and Wednesday will be serene and without precipitation. Daytime temperatures from 2°C in the east to 5°C in the west. At night, local frosts are possible. Wind from variable directions, weak, and moderate on the coast. A return to cloudy and dynamic weather is forecast in northern Poland on Thursday. The atmospheric front there will bring weak to moderate rainfall and moderate to strong westerly winds. In the south, it was initially clear but in the evening an increase in cloudiness. Temperatures unchanged, ranging from 1°C in the mountains and east to 6°C in the western extremities.

Hydrological situation in the country

On the Vistula and its tributaries in the upper section, water levels are generally arranged in the zones of medium levels. High levels are observed on the remaining tributaries of the Vistula and in its estuary section. Exceedances of alarm levels are observed on the Brynica River and on the lower section of the Bug River, from the Nurzec River. In the Oder River basin, the Pregoła River and on the rivers of the Baltic Sea, waters are arranged in zones of high and warning levels. The alert status has been exceeded on the Guber River in the Pregolese basin. The warming over the past week has caused ice phenomena to recede from most sections of rivers. Coastal ice and slick are observed on mountainous sections of watercourses and locally on rivers and lakes in the Narew River basin.

Threats in the coming week

Moderate to heavy rainfall is possible across the country on Friday. In the west, gusty winds. From Friday evening until noon on Saturday, the storm in the Baltic Sea. In the Carpathian Mountains from the evening hours of Saturday through Sunday, moderate snowfall is possible, as well as freezing precipitation, causing glaze. Risk of fog in the southeast on Monday.

In the coming days, IMGW-PIB has issued hydrological warnings. 3. degree for the Biebrza, Upper Prosna, Barycz and Obra, and 2. degree, among others. For the Pilica, Jeziorka, a significant part of the Narew, Warta, Liswarta, Beaver and Nysa Lusatian river basins.
