May weekend is a time when many Poles head to lakes, the sea, or rivers to enjoy the first warm days. The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW-PIB) has published the latest forecast for the long weekend. We checked what weather conditions await us in Poland’s most popular water-tourism regions. Will the weather this year allow for sunbathing?
Masuria with dynamic weather
The May weekend in Masuria is expected to be changeable. According to IMGW, May 1 will bring little to moderate cloud cover, with daytime temperatures between 16°C and 19°C, but nights will be chilly – locally in the eastern part of the region, thermometers may show as little as 4°C. On Friday (May 2), cloud cover will increase to a high level, with scattered rain showers and pleasant temperatures reaching 20–21°C. The wind, mainly from the west and southwest, will be moderate and occasionally gusty.
Saturday (May 3) will bring less cloud cover – little to moderate, no precipitation, with temperatures around 16–17°C. However, wind gusts, especially in the northwest, may reach speeds of up to 60 km/h. Sunday (May 4) will be the calmest, with little cloud cover, temperatures of 14–15°C, and light winds.
Baltic coast cold and windy
In Pomerania, the May weekend will start off fair, but clearly chilly along the coast. IMGW forecasts little cloud cover and local sunny spells on May 1, with temperatures of 18–21°C inland, but only 13–15°C by the Baltic Sea, and as low as 10°C on the Hel Peninsula. Winds will be light and variable, moderate near the coast. Friday (May 2) will bring a deterioration in weather – moderate to heavy cloud cover, scattered rain showers, and wind gusts up to 60 km/h near the sea. T
emperatures will rise to 20–22°C inland, but remain around 15°C along the coast. Saturday (May 3) will feature little to moderate cloud cover, but cooler air masses will lower temperatures to 11–12°C along the coast and up to 17°C in the southern part of the region, with strong wind gusts up to 70 km/h. Sunday (May 4) will bring an improvement, with inland temperatures at 16–19°C, 11–13°C along the coast (8–9°C in the Gulf of Gdańsk), and light winds.
West coast with sunny intervals
In West Pomerania, the long weekend will start pleasantly. For May 1, IMGW forecasts little to locally moderate cloud cover and temperatures of 20–22°C inland, but cooler conditions by the sea – 12–15°C. Winds will be light and from the west. Friday (May 2) will bring moderate to heavy cloud cover, scattered showers, and a moderate, occasionally gusty wind, with temperatures of 18–21°C in the south and around 15°C along the coast.
Saturday (May 3) will feature little to moderate cloud cover, but cooler air will bring temperatures down to 10–13°C by the sea and 15–18°C inland, with wind gusts up to 60 km/h. Sunday (May 4) promises stable conditions, with little cloud cover, temperatures of 16–18°C inland and 9–12°C along the coast, and light winds.
Suwałki region with fickle weather
In Podlasie, among the lakes of the Suwałki region, the May weekend will be marked by typical mid-spring variability, with clouds, sunny spells, and occasional rain. IMGW forecasts heavy cloud cover with some sunny breaks for May 1, with possible light rain in the morning, temperatures of 14–17°C, and a light northwesterly wind. Friday (May 2) will bring more dynamic weather – heavy cloud cover, scattered rain showers, some thunderstorms, and temperatures of 20–22°C. The southwesterly wind will be gusty and may hinder water activities.
Saturday (May 3) will feature heavy cloud cover with sunny breaks, possible morning showers in the south, temperatures of 15–18°C, and a moderate, gusty westerly wind. Sunday (May 4) will be calmer – little to moderate cloud cover, temperatures of 13–17°C, and a moderate, occasionally gusty wind in the north.
Weather for the May weekend across Poland – where will it be warmest, where will it rain?
The May weekend of 2025 in Poland will bring varied weather that will allow for outdoor activities, though caution may be necessary in some places. The highest temperatures are expected inland, especially in the west and south – in Greater Poland, Lower Silesia, and Lesser Poland, where maximums may reach 22–26°C, especially on May 2. The coolest areas will be by the Baltic Sea, particularly in the Gulf of Gdańsk and on the Hel Peninsula (8–12°C), and in the northeast, including Suwałki, where nighttime temperatures may drop to 4°C.
Rain showers, some with thunderstorms, are expected mainly on May 2, affecting eastern Poland (Masuria, Podlasie), the central region, and parts of the south, though coastal areas may also see passing rain. The most stable weather is expected on May 4, with little cloud cover and light winds, especially in the west and center, favoring sailing, fishing, or barbecuing.
