Every year, on March 22, World Water Day is celebrated. The date was chosen in 1992. by the United Nations, so this year marks the 30th anniversary. This is a day dedicated to discussing the importance of water, its condition and availability around the world.
The theme of this year’s day is ACCELERATING CHANGE – Accelerating Change – be the change you want to see in the world. The main topic is achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for water and how to solve the global water and sanitation crisis.
The UN 2023 Water Conference is also being held in New York as part of World Water Day. The program includes both official events and a number of side initiatives. On March 22 – 23, the implementation of sustainability measures will be summarized and evaluated, and a Water Action Agenda – a list of voluntary measures for water conservation – will be created.
You can join in the celebration in a variety of ways. As part of the UN’s efforts, declarations are being collected on national water conservation efforts. Examples of personal water conservation initiatives can be submitted to the World Water Day website.
Also in Poland, on the occasion of the international water holiday, various events are organized, including:
- A literary contest: “A FRAGIC about WATER for health and nature.”
- Conference III Water Roundtable 2023 “Water Management in Emergencies”;
- Conference of the Institute of Geophysics of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Water Management Committee of the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences on the UNESCO report “Partnership and Cooperation for Water”;

- “World Water Day with Krynka 2023” photo contest.
