III Congress of Water Management and Flood Protection in Krakow

September 4-6, 2024. Krakow will host the 3rd edition of the Water Management and Flood Protection Congress. This event, is an opportunity to address and expand the issues discussed since 2016. during the Conference on Management of Precipitation and Meltwater. Numerous demands from participants of the previous editions prompted the organizers to expand the topics, covering not only rainwater, but also flood safety issues. This new, more expanded formula was enthusiastically received, and participants expressed the need to continue and further develop the congress, which has become an important platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience.

Event venue and unique atmosphere

The 3rd Water Management and Flood Protection Congress will be held in the historic building of the Bielany Water Treatment Plant, in a picturesque district of Krakow, right next to the Wolski Forest. This location, already appreciated during previous editions, offers a unique atmosphere conducive to integration and creative discussions. Congress participants will have the opportunity not only to participate in plenary sessions, but also to enjoy the surrounding nature. An additional advantage is the proximity of accommodation and the venue, which will host the TITAN 2024 awards gala. Participants will be accommodated at the Forest Hotel and the Przegorzaly Castle, both of which are located in the heart of the Wolski Forest.

Congress program: sessions, discussions and networking

The first day of the congress, September 4, will begin with registration of participants, followed by a plenary session on legal issues and financing of water management investments. This will be followed by a panel discussion The future of tariffization of collective water supply services. In which direction is the issue of tariff regulation headed? , which will be chaired by Piotr Ziętara, chairman of the board of directors of the Krakow City Waterworks. A coffee break will be followed by the first technical session, which will cover urban water management issues. The day will conclude with a tour in the footsteps of Krakow’s green-blue infrastructure, which will allow participants to see in practice how the city deals with rainwater challenges. In the evening, a barbecue dinner will be held at the Forest Hotel, providing an excellent opportunity to network and exchange experiences in a less formal atmosphere.

The second day, September 5, will begin with a continuation of technical sessions that will cover a variety of topics related to technologies and innovations in water management. A session on education and communication will also be an important highlight. In the evening, there will be a gala presentation of the TYTAN 2024 awards in the area of water management and flood protection, during which the most interesting projects and products will be honored. The gala will be held at Przegorzaly Castle, which will highlight the unique nature of the event.

Concluding the congress

A tour of the Vistula River is planned for the last day of the congress, September 6. The designated route, combining modern solutions with the city’s history, will provide unforgettable impressions and valuable knowledge.

A modern approach to water challenges

The 3rd Congress on Water Management and Flood Protection is not only an opportunity to exchange experiences, but also an important step towards a future in which resource management and flood protection will become key challenges in the context of climate change. The increasing frequency of extreme weather events, such as floods, droughts and intense rainfall, requires modern and integrated solutions. The congress aims to promote a comprehensive approach to these problems, combining technical, legal and educational aspects.

During the congress, participants will have the opportunity to learn about the latest technologies and best practices. The program will not be short of examples of innovative green-blue infrastructure solutions aimed at increasing the resilience of cities to climate change and minimizing the effects of flooding and other water-related risks. The exchange of experience and knowledge on this topic is particularly important in the context of increasing urbanization and changes in floodplain management.
