We would like to inform you that on May 1, 2023. Gizycko will host the already traditional Grand Opening of the Season with a spectacular Parade of Watercraft. This is one of the most popular sailing events in Masuria, and is a prelude to many land and water events.
This year the event will be held, exceptionally, not on the Luczanski Canal, which is undergoing major renovation, but at the Ekomarina, on Lake Niegocin, and by land – at the Port Passage. Despite the change of location, there will be a familiar and well-loved highlight of the event, the Parade of Boats, as well as a flyboard show and a competition for the best-decorated vessel. Detailed information about the competition can be found on the website of the organizer, which is the Gizycko Cultural Center. The water parade of the competition crews, among which the most decorated and dressed up one will be selected, will be observable from the port, Gizycko pier and city beach.
An important highlight of the program is the traditional swearing-in of Mazurian Volunteer Rescue Service lifeguards. In Ekomarina, interested parties will find plenty of attractions, such as Radio ZET’s Outdoor Town, with culinary meetings, tastings and various activities for the whole family. A Very Cultural Picnic will be held at Port Passage, during which local artists, shanty bands, rock bands and entertainment orchestras will perform. Attendees will also be treated to theatrical performances, fire and pyrotechnic shows.
The symbolic opening of the sailing and tourist season is a preview of what awaits us in the coming months, including the vacations. Lots of attractions, recreation, regattas and cultural events, with, of course, the announced opening of a spectacular new venue on the cultural map of Gizycko – the “Schron” Art Gallery, located in a real, historic shelter in the center of the city. There we will be able to meet eye to eye with the art of the world’s greatest and most famous painters. It is also a beachhead for local artists.
The opening of the sailing season is also part of the four-day Gizycko Days, which will take place over the long May weekend – from Sunday, April 30 to Wednesday, May 3.
The Grand Opening of the Season in Gizycko attracts thousands of sailors and tourists to the city every year, but also arouses great interest in the local community. You must not be missing there!
