We have already written about the fact that water management plans (WMPs) are basic planning documents in water management in previous issues of Water Issues. Recently, the publication of their updates began. As of yesterday, a complete set, i.e. nine regulations are already in effect in all river basin areas.
Do water management plans apply to you as well?
Of course it does. There is no place in Poland for which water bodies and the environmental objectives applicable to them have not been identified. This is difficult nomenclature and very voluminous documents – from several to tens of thousands of pages. However, this does not change the fact that anyone who wishes to obtain the relevant permits or decisions for investment activities are bound by PGW.
The findings of the PGW will be taken into account in, among other things:
- Issuance of water consents, decisions on environmental conditions or integrated permits;
- The development of strategic and planning documents from the municipal level to the central administration;
- Issuing opinions on strategic environmental assessment;
- creation of ecophysiographic studies;
- making an assessment of environmental damage;
- Investigating the compliance of an investment or project with the Do Not Significant Harm (DNSH) principle.
