Under the current provisions of the nitrate program (“Program of measures to reduce water pollution by nitrates from agricultural sources and prevent further pollution”), farms raising or keeping livestock less than or equal to 210 livestock units (LU), by December 31, 2024. are required to adjust the area/capacity of manure storage areas to the following requirements:
- The capacity of tanks for liquid manures (slurry, manure) should allow for their storage for 6 months;
- the surface area of places for storing natural solid fertilizers (manure, bird manure) should allow their storage for 5 months.
In order to support farms in adapting their buildings to the requirements arising from the nitrate program under the operation “Investments to protect waters against nitrate pollution from agricultural sources,” specifically the sub-action “Support for investments in farms,” covered by the Rural Development Program 2014 – 2020 (RDP 2014 – 2020), farmers who are engaged in agricultural activities in the field of livestock production can apply for assistance to subsidize investments that will serve to adapt farms to the above-mentioned requirements. storage requirements for natural fertilizers, as well as for retrofitting farms with equipment for applying liquid natural fertilizers. Financial support for the implementation of the nitrate program is also provided for in the Common Agricultural Policy Strategic Plan 2023 – 2027 (CAP SP). Activities planned under the intervention (titled “Investments contributing to environmental and climate protection”) will support activities aimed at reducing emissions of pollutants, including greenhouse gases and odors, by equipping farms with slabs, tanks or storage facilities for manure or silage.
In order to simplify the procedures for granting and accounting for aid under the CAP PS intervention, the rules for unit costs for the construction of manure storage structures will be analogous to the existing operations “Investments to protect waters from pollution by nitrates from agricultural sources” under the RDP 2014 – 2020. A farmer or a group of farmers (at least 3) will be able to receive support, and the maximum amount of aid granted to one beneficiary and per farm, including for the implementation of collective projects during the programming period, is a maximum of 200,000.
